According to a Carers Week 2020 report, there has been a 50% increase in the number of unpaid carers since the Coronavirus outbreak began. Carers Week is an annual awareness campaign that celebrates and recognises the vital contribution of the UK’s unpaid carers – supporting family members and friends who are older, have a disability, mental or physical illness or need extra help as they grow older.
Carers Manchester is the new Partnership of Statutory and Voluntary Sector organisations in the City which has come together to develop a new Pathway for carers to access advice and support in the City and has also arranged a variety of activities for carers week.
During next week, the Carers Manchester website will host details of online activities including carer support groups, coffee mornings, an online exercise class, carers karaoke and workshops including Welfare and Benefits, Managing Stress and Worry v Problem Solving. In addition, there will some face to face activities taking place too, including walks and talks, gentle Zumba, holistic treatments, and a celebration of the Chinese dragon boat festival.
