Dr Greenaway writes:
“Sadly, it’s time to retire; after 40 years in the NHS and 30 years at the Alexandra Practice. I feel very proud of what we achieved in building the practice, but equally pleased to be handing over to the next generation of receptionists, managers, nurses, and doctors safe in the knowledge they will do their best to look after you.
I particularly want to thank you, the patients, for sharing your lives with me-from the birth of your children right through to the death of loved ones. It was lovely to see you overcome difficulty and the way you managed long term illness with such fortitude. For some it was very difficult. In a small way, I hope I was able to help you and offer solace and comfort, in your time of suffering and sadness.
I’ll still be doing some work locally, supporting general practice, and working with community groups especially our ‘Eat Well Get Well’ project to help people lose weight and improve or reverse diabetes.
I am a lucky man: privileged to be a GP and luckier still to be a grandfather. Carol and I now have time to travel to America to see our daughter and her two young children; and time to continue our work together on various community projects.
The pandemic has disrupted everything and I’m sorry not to be able to say goodbye in person. I wish you all well.”
